Initially Ram and Priya dislike each other as Priya being well-aware of the economic disparity between her paternal & in-laws' family, viewed Ram as a snob while Ram viewed Priya to be arrogant & quarrelsome but their shared quality of being committed to the well-being of their respective families brings them closer with time. Owing to the persistent demands of Priya's family & Natasha and due lack of alternatives for a spouse, Ram & Priya agree to marry each other. Hence Kartik & Natasha's wedding can't proceed without Priya & Ram being married off. However it is considered taboo within Hindu culture for a person to marry before his/her elder siblings have married. The story begins when Ram's younger half-sister, Natasha Amarnath Kapoor, and Priya's younger brother, Kartik Sharma fall in love. Priya Sharma, who is a working woman in her early 30s, comes from a middle-class family.
